The Medium and the Ghost of Samuel

Do mediums and psychics have the ability to contact the deceased?

There is some mystery and debate as to whether mediums and psychics can actually communicate with the dead. There is a common claim that they receive messages and information from "beyond". The question is, do these messages come directly from God? Or are they received from a darker, more deceptive source?

There is a very revealing account in the Bible that may help you answer those questions, and perhaps even more.

Many have used the example of Saul and the medium at En-dor to defend their position as to whether or not mediums have the ability to contact the dead. But just who is the message coming from? In the following passage, the reactions of both Saul and the medium are very telling, and even provide some answers for those who question the information source of practicing psychics and mediums. Do mediums receive information from an outside source?

Once the medium understands that Saul wants to contact Samuel, and she agrees, she then sees Samuel, and her reaction tells her surprise:
1Sa 28:12 And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice, and the woman spake to Saul, laying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.
1Sa 28:13 And the King said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending up out of the earth.
The medium is clearly surprised to see Samuel. But why? Shouldn't she be used to contacting the dead in her line of work? Common sense says that she should not be surprised. Was she actually surprised that she could in fact make contact with Samuel? Was this her first actual experience being in communication with someone who had passed on?

Saul obviously could not see Samuel, because he asked the medium what she saw.

Whether she is surprised that Samuel actually appeared before her because she has not ever actually communicated with the dead, or she is used to receiving her information from "alternative sources", which were this time replaced with the actual appearance of Samuel. Regardless, the simple fact remains - she reacted with shock to the experience.

Ultimately, you decide what you believe, not anyone else.
